About PEPS

PEPS (Progress in Earth and Planetary Science) is a peer-reviewed, open access English language journal published by Springer-Nature in collaboration with all the participating societies of the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU). PEPS was launched in 2014. Readers have free online access to all published articles.
PEPS covers both specialized and interdisciplinary topics in Earth and planetary sciences. About 20% of our articles are review articles, and we also publish research articles, data articles (which we also call “articles with full data attached”), and methodology articles. We also publish special issues called SPEPS (SPecial call for Excellent Papers on hot topicS), which contain planned contributions but are also open to general submissions.
Covered Fields
PEPS covers specialized topics in Earth and planetary science and interdisciplinary topics.
- Space and planetary sciences
- Atmospheric and hydrospheric sciences
- Human geosciences
- Solid earth sciences
- Biogeosciences
- Interdisciplinary research
Type of Articles
PEPS is devoted to high-quality original articles. PEPS welcomes articles with electronic attachments including videos, animations, and large original data files. We publish articles in the following four categories:
- Research article: research articles are high-quality papers detailing original research.
- Review article: review articles are summaries of recent insights in specific research areas within the scope of Progress in Earth and Planetary Science.
- Papers with full data attached: papers with full data attached are intended to preserve detailed raw research data and metadata (from experiments, numerical simulations etc.) and make these freely available to the research community for further analysis.
- Methodology articles: methodology articles should present new experimental or computational methods, tests or procedures.
We also occasionally accept comment articles: these are intended to contain a substantial re-analysis of articles previously published in the journal.
Article Processing Charge (APC)
- 1) JpGU will cover the full APC for invited papers.
- 2) A 20% discount will be applied to papers submitted by JpGU members and review papers.
- 3) Regular papers submitted by non-JpGU members will be charged the full APC.
Details>>(Article Processing Charge (APC))
Progress in Earth and Planetary Science (PEPS), a peer-reviewed open access e-journal, was launched by the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) in 2014. This international journal is devoted to high-quality original articles, reviews and papers with full data attached in the research fields of space and planetary sciences, atmospheric and hydrospheric sciences, human geosciences, solid earth sciences, and biogeosciences. PEPS promotes excellent review articles and welcomes articles with electronic attachments including videos, animations, and large original data files. PEPS also encourages papers with full data attached: papers with full data attached are scientific articles that preserve the full detailed raw research data and metadata which were gathered in their preparation and make these data freely available to the research community for further analysis.
